Where to begin to explain this?
In Canada the schooling system is broken into elementary, middle school & high school. So what you see here is her ceremony celebrating her leaving behind middle school and entering into high school. The first of six kids and the apple of her parent’s eyes, now entering a new chapter in her life, as she leaves Saint Raphael Catholic School. You could feel the intensity and excitement barely contained in her eyes. Words failed her and all she could do was smile from behind those beautiful eyes.
Lately being the weather is Canada has been especially unpredictable with heavy rain, wind taking down power lines and knocking out power to certain parts of the city. This day started out no different with extra gloomy cloud and heavy rains threatening to stop the hustle and bustle of the days events. But as Canadians normally do, you weather the storm and carry on. The sun finally made an appearance just in time to shine light onto the day.
I can tell you now that times have surely changed and graduation ceremonies are no different with more elaborate and more intricate detail and nuances. The latest dress trends walked between the pillars in this catholic school ceremony with the tomorrows doers, achievers and trend setters.
As the ceremony carried on, the documentary part of my brain was wired and ready to bounce into action, capturing when the moments called for it. Always with curious eyes I watched as the ceremony unveiled, switching gears into paparazzi mode after the ceremony to capture some much awaited family and peers images. Proud smiles of having come this far and making her parents proud, this night was dedicated, just for her with absolutely no distraction.
As I watched, with my eyes that have been photographing this little girl for over 14 years, I didn’t realize that I had just walked right past her. She had blossomed into this beautiful young lady. I literally had to take a double look to realize that in fact it was Kianna.
Can I just say that I was nothing short of proud myself of her accomplishments. I get overwhelmed when I realized that this proud mother has allowed me to capture these huge milestones of her family life for almost a year short of a decade and half.
High school here she comes…we wish her nothing but the best life has to offer.
