Monique as a bride was as sweet as a cupcake, while the word swagger is the best description of what the groom Adrian had. We started our day at the hotel where Adrian was and was greeted by his best man. While the groom was getting ready we shuffled around, getting our detail shots in anticipation of meeting the groom for the very first time. Yup, this was the first time, as he had just flown in and up till that point we had all our meetings with the Monique. To our relief, he was this very tall and very cool guy that had a very chilled vibe about him. A very clam presence to say the least. After our shoot had finished we moved over to the Monique’s place, where we were able to meet her son Simeon while we waited for her to arrive home from having her make up done. She too was a very cool cat, as she was ready and willing to have her day captured without any hesitation and true to life. This is so up my alley, capturing what the real of any bride’s day and this style is way more cool in my opinion. We were honoured to capture her day in our documentary style, Adrian and Monique are the perfect union and we hope they will look back years from now re-live their day through these memories.
The couple’s day was deep rooted in the strong faith they both have in being Christians. They are members of a small congregation in Toronto and the church was beautifully prepared to celebrate their union. Good fortune for them, the sun was completely present on this day which allowed us to take several great memories outside their church. Throughout their ceremony and their time in the park with us, they were having so much fun and were bringing much of their Jamaican culture into the experience. At one point, the groomsmen were somewhat nervous when we asked them to volunteer one of their own to have Adrian hurdle over them just to have some fun. One of the things we always is to try and inject some life into the party by allowing couples to be their own person, we are after all documenting and the memories we create should only highlight who they are, not who we want them to be in a photograph. I think the guys were nervous one of them wonder would split their pants. This whole group was so much filled with fun, joy and energy. Normally the groom takes a bit of time to come out of their shell’s we find in front of the camera, but on this day…not this groom! He was joyous, happy and confident. The moments captured in Gage Park were priceless and it really made for amazing memories for this couple.
The couple’s very cool vibe continued as we arrived for the reception. Their reception was filled with amazing colours, thoughtful speakers and much love. Love for their fatih, love for each and love the journey they had started to take. From their entrance to the cake cutting to the contemporary “shoe game” most couples play in front of their guests testing their knowledge of each other this was all done while having music that injected a very distinct Jamaican vibe.
It gives us great pride being asked to capture a couple’s big day and we are humbled. It was a great pleasure with Monique and Adrian to have shot their wedding. And now, here are the images that showcase their day…
